Ron Luckenbill in his shop
I would like to introduce you to myself and my special interest, Recreating History. My name is Ron Luckenbill and I am located in north central Pennsylvania in the “Land of Endless Mountains.” In our area we harvest some of the finest curly maple available. As of 2023, I retired from building muzzleloaders, but for decades, I personally selected my blanks and processed them into finished guns. I worked alone in my shop and produced about a dozen quality longrifles a year. I learned stock making from my father. As a young man most of my time was spent working on modern guns. In the mid 1960’s, my career took me to the Allentown, Pennsylvania area, and there I was introduced to longrifles and was hooked. I started building longrifles using locks supplied by Russ Hamm and barrels from Bill Large. In the mid 1970s, career and family took priority and gunmaking was largely set aside. I often joke that I built guns B.C. and A.C. (Before Children and After Children). I was able to retire from my employment in 1995 and had been building full time until 2023. I enjoyed working with the client to produce a longrifle that will often times become a family heirloom. I strived to give value beyond the cost of the project. The satisfaction of my client was my best advertisement.
I built recreations of the fine muzzleloaders of the 17th century through the mid 18th century. Click on the Muzzleloaders tab above to view these.
